A Dreaming You is The Next Gen You
Dear Dreamers & Believers,
We are well into the new year and over 90% of those who committed to new year resolutions have failed to uphold their goals and have reverted back to their old habits.
If you happen to be one of those people, I want to say that I am sorry that you were misled on how to set goals and achieve them.
I love this time of year because there is an abundance of energy and feeling in the air for life change, habit renewal, commitment refreshment, and forward progress.
In fact, this is the time of year where people create plans to make a positive influence and improve their lives.
With that spirit, I want to invite you to stop playing the system and actually commit to setting real life-changing goals.
Most resolutions fail because people don’t have a purpose, vision or a dream for the desired outcome.
Some people see the hottest bods on the health magazines at the grocery store checkout lines and begin exercising a new fitness program, consume an out-of-the-norm diet routine, and expect instant results within a few short attempts. I’m no health expert and this is merely one example of the millions of resolutions created.
Failure results when you realize that this is going to be too difficult to continue. So, you quit. You give up. You abandon your potential.
Nobody likes to fail. In fact, every time you don’t complete your “resolutions” you are teaching your brain as well as everyone around you that there is an alternative option to your plan–giving up.
You have psychologically convinced yourself that giving up is ok and that the adventure you have embarked didn’t work.
Though none of that is true, you have literally given yourself permission to fall short because something was too difficult. This is the beginning of the end for most people who once had aspirations. 40 years later, you’ll wake up older, fatter, unmotivated, hating your life and your circumstances, and will continue to justify that it’s ok to live this way because that is just how life goes.
These are the same people who hate work and plug away all week just to get to Friday. Have you ever said, “thank god it’s Friday?” #TGIF
If you never want to fail your goals again I suggest you do this one simple step BEFORE you set any goals.
Imagine yourself 10 years from now. Imagine yourself and who you want to become. Imagine the best version of you.
Maybe you are fit. Maybe you are smarter. Maybe you have your bosses job or even have a new job at a different company. Imagine what makes you most happy. Once you have that image, define it. Write down. Write it and repeat it so often that it becomes part of your daily routines.
For example, I want to become a renowned public speaker on goal setting and help people develop the professional skills necessary to achieve their career goals. A shorter version of this is “renowned public speaker.”
- In order to achieve this goal, I’ve naturally taken the following actions:
- I’ve written it down.
- I’ve made a dream board that clearly reminds me of my dream.
- I’ve written it on my mirror so that I see it every time I enter the bathroom, I see it. I’ve set daily, weekly, monthly, and annually reminders on my phone and smart devices.
- It’s on my computer screen at work.
- IT’S EVERYWHERE
When you begin to dream, you begin to accomplish your goals. Natural action leads to forward progress.
World-renowned motivational speaker, Les Brown, said that there is a difference between eyesight and mindsight. Mindsight is far more powerful than seeing something. If you continue to live life by what you see, you will continue to believe in what you see.
If you live life by what you believe and dream, you will see different results for what you see.
“To reach a goal you have never before attained, you must do things you have never before done.” ~Richard G. Scott
